Weaving the Fabric of Rock-n-Roll Pop Culture

‘Dear Prudence’ was written about Mia Farrow’s sister, Prudence. The Beatles were into Indian mysticism, but she was obsessive about it. Apparently, it was about them wishing she would lighten up a bit. Years later, Siouxsie & the Banshees recorded a version of it, so did Leslie West of Mountain.

Not such a leap that the same year Mia Farrow was the darling of the Fashion Industry, her sister Prudence, was the subject of a hit song on the radio. The performer, the artist, and fashionistas have commingled in every decade. The Beatles wore Pierre Cardin, a Frenchman who created the ‘collar-less’ suits that became their trademark, although what they wore was a copy by Douglas Millings and worn by the Fab Four. Peter Max, an American Pop Artist, did art for Yellow Submarine and cartooned the Beatles brand.  Peter’s art catalogue is extensive and one of a kind.

You’re So Vain’ by Carly Simon was always thought to be about Mick Jagger.  As it turns out, Mr. Jagger sang uncredited Backing Vocals on the recording. Warren Beatty thanked her for the song, real or imagined. Supposedly, the ‘apricot scarf’ referred to the one worn by Nick Nolte in a 1970’s film. Carly Simon says it is a composite of 3 separate men she knew from her days in L.A. So is it Mick, Nick, & Warren?

Carly Simon is the daughter of Richard Simon, of Simon and Schuster Publishing Company. Her career has seen its ups and downs, but her songs are all classics.  True smoking sexuality in prose and pose. She wrote the soundtrack for a Winnie the Pooh production that was clever and showed a genuine talent. Find her as a backup singer for John Lennon’s Elephant’s Memory Band, way back when. Carly is still easy on the eyes and has a voice that can lead us into temptation.

‘Her Strut’ one of many songs by Bob Seger. This song was written about Jane Fonda as she walked into a Senate Hearing. Bob Seger also played piano on Kid Rock’s recording, ‘Born Free’.  Meet and greet at www.kidrock.com   Bob wrote ‘Like a Rock’  which we all know from Chevrolet’s GM advertisements. His tune ‘Shakedown’ for Beverly Hills Cop II with Eddie Murphy, was originally intended for Glenn Frey of the Eagles. ‘Heartache Tonight’  was recorded by the Eagles but was Bob Seger composition.  More about Bob Seger.

John Lennon came away from the Beatles experience with an intense dislike of Paul McCartney. ‘How Do You Sleep?‘ was a shot at Paul.  The song was a response to McCartneys’ release of ‘Too Many People’  which bad-mouthed John Lennon. Paul McCartney went on to become Sir Paul McCartney and John Lennon was gunned down by an idiot on a NYC street for no reason. Visit www.johnlennon.com and www.paulmccartney.com  and enjoy.
