Russell Brand: Infant Sorrow

OK. Sure, Russell Brand is a whack job. So what’s your point?

That’s his schtick. That’s why people love him. His personal history would lead us to believe he’d be in prison or a drug program. Maybe… a suicide or dismembered in a Porsche at high speed. Nope. Famous.

‘Get Him To The Greek’ is a parody, of course, but isn’t it easy to play yourself? Aldous Snow, played by Russell, is a deranged, drugged out rock star trying to make a comeback, or at least his handlers hope so.

I am impressed with Russell’s vocal skills. Acting schmacting. He plays himself. How hard is that?!

His band in the movie is ‘Infant Sorrow’, and he wrote the hit song ‘African Child’ which took the charts by storm. Russell Brand’s character, Aldous, is a self-described white African Jesus… hence the tune, ‘I Am Jesus’. While some of the songs are ‘ho hum’, there are six on the soundtrack I cannot stop listening to. These two are enough to make you a fan. Absolutely top shelf power pop rock parody!!

The movie is about, Jonah Hill (who plays Aaron Green), trying to get him to Los Angeles to a 10 year reunion gig and put him back on top. All the while, he takes this not so less than atypical white bread record label underling on a whirlwind tour of drugs alcohol and sexual escapades that will make you laugh until you cry.

Aaron’s (Jonah Hill) girlfriend Daphne (played so well by Elizabeth Moss) gets a song all of her own with ‘Riding Daphne’ and if I could pick one song as a favorite, this would be it! ‘Yeah Yeah Oi Oi’ is another personal favorite.

Russell’s pop slut ex-girlfriend Jackie Q (Rose Byrne) plays a less than significant other. Sean ‘Puffy’ Coombs (P. Diddy) plays the gangsta rap rock record producer, Sergio Roma. Expect various cameo appearances from Pink, Johnny Depp, Dee Snider, Meredith Vieira, Kurt Loder, Mario Lopez, and the list goes on.

So, yes… it IS funny. You must see this movie!! The six killer songs make the CD a must have!!

Infant Sorrow!! You are killing me!!! … and I must admit…. ‘there’s a little African child trapped in me!’
